Canada, Costa Rica Qualify for Copa America

FRISCO, TX–Canada and Costa Rica booked their places into this year’s Copa America with victories over Trinidad and Tobago and Honduras, respectively, at Toyota Stadium.

Canada 2-0 Trinidad and Tobago

After a goalless fist half, Canada broke through in the 61st minute after Cyle Larin scored off a feed from Tajon Buchanan. Jacob Shaffelburg added insurance in stoppage time to see Le Rouge into Copa America where they will be in a group against Argentina, Peru, and Chile.

Costa Rica 3-1 Honduras

Costa Rica will be in a group with Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay after defeating Honduras, 3-1, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Honduras took the early lead in the 12th minute through Michaell Chirinos. However, the Ticos would rally quickly and then took over. Orlando Gala equalized in the fourteenth minute. Warren Madrigal and Jefferson Brenes scored in a five-minute span in the second half to send the Ticos through to Copa America this Summer.
