Panama, Mexico advance to Gold Cup Semis

ARLINGTON, TX–Panama routed guests Qatar and Mexico got by Costa Rica in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals at AT&T Stadium near Dallas. Now, the details:

Panama 4-0 Qatar

Ismael Diaz scored a second half hat trick as Panama rolled to a 4-0 rout of guests Qatar. Diaz’s three goals in nine minutes is the fastest in the history of the Gold Cup. Panama reach their first semifinal since 2015 when they got all the way to the Final that year, losing to the USA. They will face the winner of the USA-Canada match on Wednesday at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.

Mexico 2-0 Costa Rica

Goals by Erick Sanchez and Oberlin Pineda send Mexico to a date in Las Vegas with either Jamaica or Guatemala on Wednesday. Pineda scored from the penalty spot in the 50th minute after Henry Martin was taken down in the box by Kendall Waston. Substitute Sanchez scored the insurance goal in the 87th minute to send Mexico their way.
