The city of Houston was chosen as a host city for the 2026 World Cup. FIFA announced this Thursday all the 16 cities that will host the first 48-team World Cup.

“Today’s announcement is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the bid committee and many others. We are honored and excited to be award the opportunity to welcome sports fans worldwide to experience the World Cup in the city”, Houston major Sylvester Turner said after the official announcement.

NRG Stadium will be the place where the matches take place. It is expected that the city will host between 5 to 6 matches of the most important soccer tournament in the planet during the summer of 2026.

The stadium is the home of the NFL Houston Texans as well as the home of the Houston Rodeo. It also host many international soccer matches every year among other important events such as Super Bowls and NCAA Basketball finals.

With a capacity of over 70,000 fans, NRG Stadium features a retractable roof and an ideal location for sports fans top attend events in the Space City.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be selected as a host city alongside many great cities in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. The Houston community has truly backed our bid and is ready to welcome players and fans from all over the world”.
