FC Cincinnati 1-Sporting Kansas City 1

After a tough loss in the midweek in CONCACAF Champions League  against Monterrey many were wondering how Sporting Kansas City would respond. The answer? With a bit of youth and a bit of fight. Thanks to a second half goal from Gianluca Busio the powdered blues earned a point on the road against FC Cincinnati.

Things didn’t start so smoothly for Kansas City. In the 19th minute Roland Lamah earned a foul deep inside Sporting’s penalty area. Forward Darren Mattocks buried the ensuing penalty into the back of the net, his first of the season. After surviving some scares late in the first half, Sporting came out of their defensive shell using the speed of Busio and Kellyn Rowe on the counter-attack. Their work paid off in the 62nd minute when Busio caught a cross from Rowe down at the center of the pitch. The 16 year old’s first touch was a little heavy but a defensive miscue between goalkeeper Spencer Richey and defender Greg Garza gave him the ball back with an empty net. He made the most of his chance, tying the score at one.
