Charlotte FC surrendered a late goal in a 1-1 draw

Charlotte FC extended their home unbeaten streak to 12 after a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati.

Charlotte had a good chance early on with a through ball from Ashley Westwood to Kerwin Vargas, whose shot missed high in the 2nd minute. Vargas was involved in another chance for Charlotte in the 18th minute when he crossed the ball into Patrick Agyemang who put a shot on goal that was saved by the Cincinnati goalkeeper.

Cincinnati had a couple chances of their own in the first half, forcing Kristijan Kahlina to make a a difficult save in both the 26th minute and another save in the 28th minute.

Charlotte has another big chance in the second half when Agyemang received the call on a run with just one defender with him, but his shot missed wide to the right.

Djibril Diani drew a penalty for Charlotte in the 57th minute which he stepped up and converted in the 60th minute, putting Charlotte ahead 1-0.

Liel Abada made his debut for Charlotte, being subbed on in the 61st minute. Abada had a chance to score in his debut, sending the ball over the goal after a pass from Copetti in the 78th minute.

Cincinnati forced another save from Kahlina with a long shot in the 81st minute. Cincinnati stayed on the attack, scoring the equalizer in the second minute of added time with Aaron Boupendza being the goal scorer.

The match resembled many of last season’s matches as Charlotte took the lead and held it until late in the game, surrendering a goal in added time to drop points.

Charlotte matched up well in the match with Cincinnati, having just one less shot and two less shots on goal than Cincinnati while having a slight advantage in expected goals and only having possession for 40 percent of the match.

Charlotte ended their two-match home stretch against tough competition by getting four out of the possible six points. Their next match will be on the road against the winless New England Revolution. The match is set for kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST at Gillette Stadium and streaming on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
