Despite losing to Sounders, Toronto FC are still cup contenders

Toronto FC lost at Sounders FC last Saturday and many were saying that their playoff chances will take a hit because of this. But the Eastern Conference is wide open and the Reds are in firm position to make it to the playoffs. Last year’s failure was surely a one off event and the team will make sure that it is not repeated this time.

The likelihood still favors Toronto FC to make it to the playoffs on the evidence of their strong start to 2019 season. Last weekend’s defeat to the old foes Sounders was their first this season. Moreover they have two matches in hand and winning them could see them climb to the top of the Eastern Conference.

Bookmakers too have been making a mark of their early success and have set their Cup odds at an average +1000. This makes for the perfect opportunity to avail the free bets easily accessible at one of the most reputed aggregators in the country CanadaSportsBetting.ca. They have two $20 free bets which can be placed with two different bookies. Who says you can’t get anything without risking anything?

It’s a particularly good idea to play around without risking any of your money because even though sports betting of any sort is a much “safer” form of gambling than just about any other kind, it still takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it. Effectively, sports betting is all about knowledge of the game and the players and how to make the smartest, most strategic bets possible. This makes it about a lot more than dumb luck but knowing the ins and outs of sports betting is crucial too.

Dawn of a New Era

You do not have to look too far back in the past to see Toronto FC struggling in the bottom places of the MLS table. But the club have gradually transformed its off field operations which has resulted to them becoming successful on the field. A good indicator of their success is that they have been to two back-to-back MLS cup finals in the years 2016 and 2017.

Alejandro Pozuelo became an instant hit

Pozuelo signed with Toronto FC after finishing regular European season with Genk. It generally takes a couple of weeks or even months to develop a partnership with a new teammate.

But Pozuelo instantly struck a chord with fellow strike partner Jozy Altidore. In Pozuelo’s debut he assisted one for Altidore and scored a brace himself. The understanding between the pair has become even stronger now and they are now the most feared strike partnership in the MLS.

Eastern Conference is highly unpredictable at the moment

Wayne Rooney’s D.C. United has quickly marched on to the top of the Eastern Conference. They lead the pack with fourteen points but are closely followed by Columbus Crew SC which is on thirteen points. The team on third are Montreal Impact who has accrued 11 points.

Currently at fourth place Toronto FC are chasing these three teams and have a two game advantage on them. All three leading teams have not been as convincing as Toronto FC in the first few matches and their lack of consistency will play into the Reds’ hands.

Pozuelo has been a highly successful signing and it was being said that more signings that could propel the Reds’ to the top of the eastern conference could be made. Fans were excited to hear Curtis say that the club is hoping to get a couple more transfers over the line in this window.

Thus with eastern conference being wide open and with new additions on the way Toronto FC’s playoff chances seem stronger than ever.
