Miles Joseph got his first victory as Portland Timbers coach with 2-1 victory over the visiting Real Salt Lake in  on Wednesday August 30, at Providence Park, Portland, OR.

Both teams played with intensity making it a very physical match. Both teams also are living very different realities. While the visiting Real Salt Lake is in a very good position and playing to secure its post season spot, Portland was the team needing the points more urgently. Beyond teams tactics and player forms, that eagerness proved that extra edge that gave Portland the extra push to get the three points.

The Timbers took the advantage in minute 13, when midfielder Santiago Moreno headed a cross by Juan Mosquera. Santiago Moreno would complete an outstanding performance when he served an assists on forward Felipe Mora at 64. Real Salt Lake Santiago Acosta scored at minute 82, but Real didn’t complete the rally and the game ended in 2-1. Portland’s Santiago Moreno’s goal and assist made him man of the match and got him a spot in to the MLS Team of the week.
