Vancouver Whitecaps 0-1 San Jose Earthquakes

VANCOUVER, BC–It was one of those matches where one team had a multitude of chances and none go in, while the other team just had one and that turned out to be the lone score of the match. That was the Whitecaps’ game in a nutshell against San Jose Earthquakes at BC Place as the visitors went out 1-0 winners on Sunday night.

The Whitecaps remain above the playoffs line in eighth, level on points with Minnesota and one point clear of FC Dallas who was idle. The Quakes moved up to fifth position in the West and five points clear of 10th place Dallas.

Daniel would make eight saves on the evening, including some spectacular once in the first 15 minutes of the match. Perhaps the best one came against Ryan White in the 14th minute as the latter had a free header in the box.

The Quakes looked for a counter attack and got one in the 43rd minute with the Whitecaps caught short of numbers in the back, Jeremy Ebobisse would find Cristian Espinoza for an easy finish to put the Quakes ahead.

Sam Adekugbe would shoot a free kick off the post in the second half, but that would be as close as the Whitecaps got to a score as the Quakes held on for the three points.

The Whitecaps next play on Saturday at Portland in a Cascadia Cup match with kickoff at 7:30pm PT on Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass.
