FC Dallas 2-1 San Jose Earthquakes

FRISCO, TX–A stoppage time goal from Dante Sealy lifted FC Dallas to an opening night win over San Jose Earthquakes, 2-1.

San Jose took a surprise lead six minutes in as Cristian Espinoza sent a cross to Benji Kikanovic who scored off the rebound of his own initial shot. FCD equalized in the 25th minute on a spectacular strike from Aiser Illarramendi who took a ball from outside the box and scored on the volley leaving Quakes keepers Daniel no chance.

Kikanovic nearly had a second two minutes into the second half after rounding keeper Maarten Paes, but Nkosi Safari was able to clear the ball off the line. That was one of many chances to break the deadlock in the second half. The match looked destined for a draw until Sealy picked up a deflected ball and scored from the angle of the box in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
