DC, Fountas with the Fireworks in Dallas; Colorado-Portland Abandoned

FC Dallas 0-1 DC United

FRISCO, TX–Taxi Fountas scored the only goal as DC United left North Texas with a 1-0 win over FC Dallas. DC move to eighth in the Eastern Conference with the win while FCD remain fifth in the West. Fountas scored in the 73rd minute after his initial shot was blocked. The deflection came straight to Fountas who struck again and beat Maarten Paes near post from 15 yards out. Dallas had two chances late to equalize, but Jader Obrian would miss a point blank chance over the bar and Tiki Ntsabeleng would hit the crossbar in the closing minutes.

Dallas had eleven shots in the match, but just one on target. DC made good on one of its two shots on goal.

Colorado-Portland abandoned due to weather:

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The annual 4th of July match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park was washed away due to severe weather. The match between Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers was halted at halftime at 0-0 as strong storms swept through the area just before the teams were to take the pitch for the second half. The match will be resumed at a later date.
