CHICAGO, IL–The US Soccer Federation announced on Tuesday than an investigation into an allegation against Men’s National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter from December 11th, 2022, is underway. US Soccer has appointed The investigation is being led by Jenny Kramer, BJay Pak and Chris Marquardt of Alston & Bird LLP and remains ongoing.
The press release also mentions that US Soccer has learned about “potential inappropriate behavior towards multiple members of our staff by individuals outside of our organization.”
Berhalter later released a statement admitted a physical incident with his then girlfriend and now wife Rosalind and say they are cooperating with the investigation.
Berhalter said that the authorities were never involved and that he sought counseling after the incident. The two reconciled after the fight, got married, remain so, and have four children
Berhalter brings this up because during the World Cup, an individual contacted US Soccer saying they had information that would “take [Berhalter] down” in an effort to leverage “something very personal” to bring about the end of Berhalter’s relationship with US Soccer. Berhalter’s contract with US Soccer expired on New Year’s Day.
For its part, US Soccer added that a full technical review of the men’s program was also ongoing and that it would announce who will lead them for an upcoming January camp and subsequent pair of friendlies in the coming days against Serbia on January 25th at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, and then against Colombia three days later at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA.
The federation also thanked Berhalter and his wife for coming forward to speak about the incident, while adding that it condemns violence of any kind and and takes such allegations very seriously.
