ARLINGTON, TX–“El Tri” began their World Cup warmups with a 2-1 win over Nigeria at AT&T Stadium. Santiago Gimenez opened the scoring after 12 minutes, but Cyriel Dessers leveled matters with a goal in the 54th minute. Two minutes later, William Troost-Ekong accidentally knocked the ball into his own goal to put Mexico ahead where they would stay.
