Per Paul Tenorio of the Athletic, the Portland Timbers troubled forward Brian Fernandez is no longer with the club, according to sources that MLS has ended his contract.
A history with no happy ending for the Timbers forward that his cessation comes after not complying with the league Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) Program.
As league procedures allow MLS to terminate a player’s contract if he violates the SABH or incurs in any penalties for using banned substances and testing positive, noncompliance, or for refusals to submit to a drug test under the SABH.
This is the second time that Brian Fernandez has been banned from professional football after testing positive back in December 2015, as a player of Argentina’s first division Racing Club for two years.
Brian Fernandez joins the Portland Timbers back in May after he was acquired for a club transfer fee from LIGA MX side Club Necaxa around 10 million dollars.
The 25-year-old Argentine after joining the Timbers he immediately began to uplift the Timbers attack with 11 goals and five goals in his first six games in a total of 16 regular season starts and a total of 19 appearances.
The hole left by Brian Fernandez’s termination now leaves the Portland Timbers with an open DP slot and a challenging task of finding a player of the quality and caliber of Fernandez.
