Revolution II suffer back-to-back losses after 1-0 loss versus New York Red Bulls II

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (3-2-0, 9 pts.) were defeated by the New York Red Bulls II (2-1-2, 9 pts) in a 1-0 match on Friday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with goalkeeper Max Weinstein starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Pierre Cayet, (center backs) Victor Souza and Tiago Suarez, along with (right back) Colby Quinones. The midfield consisted of Ben Awashie (left), Brandonn Bueno (center), and Jake Rozhansky (right). The forward roles were manned by Malcolm Fry (left), Marcos Dias (right), and Jordan Adebayo-Smith as the lone striker.

The squad today featured 0 first-team players.

The match kicked off with New York starting from the center circle, sending the ball directly up the right flank of the field into New England’s defensive third. Within the first minute, the Red Bulls were caught offside.

Scrappy from the start, the Revolution had the first major moment of the match.

Entering the 18th minute, forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith was found at the top of the box with his back toward the goal. He then passed the ball back before it was quickly intercepted and then won back by Ben Awashie. He then played the ball to Colby Quinones who then quickly played the ball to find Brandonn Bueno entering the right side of the penalty area. Bueno then cut the ball back to make a move on defender #24 Curtis Ofori and was fouled in the box for a penalty. Bueno stepped up to take the penalty, but it was saved by Red Bull goalkeeper #40 AJ Marcucci.

3 minutes later, in the 21st minute, Revolution II defender Pierre Cayet entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh foul on #97 Frank Ssebefu.

The 26th minute came with three key chances by Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Pierre Cayet, but unfortunately, Jordan’s first attempt was blocked, Pierre’s attempt was saved, and Jordan’s second attempt went over the bar.

In the 43rd minute, Red Bull II midfielder #43 Ibrahim Kasule entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for not retreating following a harsh foul. Less than one minute later, Revolution II defender Santiago Suarez entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh foul as well.

Following the yellow cards, the match entered halftime with the scoreline tied at 0-0.

The second half of the match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle, sending the ball directly up the right flank of the field into the New York defensive third.

In the 52nd minute, Red Bull II defender #92 Erick Ruiz entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh foul. Just moments after the foul, Revolution II midfielder Ben Awashie also entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh foul on the other end from the ensuing freekick.

Entering the 65th minute, Red Bull II defender #24 Curtis Ofori entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh foul.

6 minutes later, in the 71st minute, Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay made his first change of the match by substituting Brandonn Bueno for Olger Escobar

In the 72nd minute, Revolution II defender Victor Souza entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh foul.

Entering the 75th minute, Red Bull had their major chance of the game. Following a fast break, defender Santiago Suarez tackled Red Bull forward #31 Ibrahim Kasule in the penalty area. The center official immediately pointed to the spot for the penalty kick.

Red Bull II forward #90 Oladayo Thomas stepped up and converted the penalty kick into the bottom left corner past Max Weinstein for the 1-0 lead.

7 minutes later, in the 82nd minute, Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay made his second and final change of the match by substituting Colby Quinones for Weverton

In the 92nd minute, Revolution II defender Pierre Cayet entered the referee’s booklet with his second yellow card of the match for grabbing a player’s jersey to thwart a counter attack. The Revolution played the remaining 2 minutes of the match with 10 men.

The New England Revolution II finished the match with 64% possession, 20 shots (6 on target), 524 total passes (82.3% accuracy), 9 crosses, 5 corners, and 0 offsides. Defensively the squad had 72 duels won, 15 tackles won, 3 saves, 17 clearances, 18 fouls, and 4 yellow cards.
