Portland Timbers home, Providence Park, is getting a serious upgrade, and upgrade that seems to be on schedule for their home opener on June 1st, against the Los Angeles Galaxy. On May 7th, the club organized a hard hat media tour to show off the improvements.

The design from Allied Works Architecture, claims to have drawn inspiration from open-air arenas all over the world, citing the legendary Boca Juniors “La Bombonera” in Buenos Aires to the London’s original Globe Theater, and has the objective to add to the atmosphere that has made Providence Park, the cathedral of US Soccer.

In addition to the new four level structure, that will accommodate 4,000 more seats, there are also a package of general improvements, from new scoreboard displays, new sound system, LEED stadium lighting, to a price tag of $85 million. (Photos by Diego G Diaz/ProstAmerika).
