NASHVILLE, TN–Nashville SC looked on their way to three points, but a late, late penalty for LA Galaxy meant two more points (and one man) lost as the match ended at 1-1. Nashville remain in position for a home playoff game, but are now just one point clear of 5th-place Portland for that honor. LA Galaxy are three points adrift of the final playoff spot currently held by Real Salt Lake–though Galaxy have a match in hand.

VAR would first benefit the Coyotes as it determined Derrick Williams handled a free kick in the area in the 27th minute. Hany Mukhtar would convert the spot kick in the 29th minute. LA got a penalty of their own in the 53rd minute after Shaq Moore knocked down Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez in the area. However, Chicharito would have his spot kick saved by Joe Willis. However, three points became one after VAR would award LA a second penalty after it saw Walker Zimmerman handle a ball in the area. For Zimmerman, it was a second yellow and sending off, and for Riqui Puig an equalizer from the spot.
