Inter Miami settles for a point after chance-filled stalemate with Nashville

Inter Miami picked up another valuable point on Sunday with a draw against fellow expansion team Nashville SC.

Diego Alonso’s men gave as good as they got in a game full of opportunities as French superstar Blaise Matuidi made his debut.

Matuidi won club man of the match honors for his performance in midfield, but he couldn’t help Miami to all three points.

Both sides lacked the quality finish needed to pick up the win, despite a ton of chances.

Though, Miami’s improvement continued the draw makes it just one defeat in four games after five straight losses to start the season.

Inter had a gilt-edged chance within the first 10 minutes when Rodolfo Pizarro directed a volley wide of the far-right post following Ben Sweat’s cross.

The Mexican had a clear sight of goal completely unmarked, but couldn’t find the target.

That proved to be the first of many chances for each side, but the miscued finish would also be replicated time and again.

Nashville came close next on the 23rd minute when a brilliant set-piece routine ended with a clearance off the line after Walker Zimmerman headed a cross back across goal.

The visitors started the second half rapidly, Hany Mukhtar getting a brilliant one-on-one opportunity following Nicolas Figal’s rare error. Luis Robles was equal to the finish.

And Joe Willis had to produce a similarly fine stop at the other end, spreading his body to deny Robbie Robinson from the angle.

Perhaps the best chance of the game followed just 10 minutes from time when Leandro Gonzalez-Pirez made a mess of an attempted sliding clearance.

Daniel Lovitz broke through for yet another one-on-one opportunity, but he slid the ball wide of the right-hand post. A real let-off for Miami.

Robinson flashed a low free-kick just wide of the post four minutes later, and four minutes into stoppage time, Nashville almost won it.

Robles punched a cross clear straight to Daniel Rios on the edge of the box.

Rios caught it wonderfully on the half-volley but Robles, barely aware of the strike, managed to react and paw it away to ensure Inter remained unbeaten at home, picking up another point.
