Revolution II defeat Inter Miami II 3-1 at Oulette Stadium

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (2-1-3, 8 pts.) were victorious 3-1 over Inter Miami FC II (3-1-2, 10 pts) on Sunday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 2:00 p.m. ET at Oulette Stadium in Hooksett, New Hampshire.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with goalkeeper JD Gunn starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Eric Klein, (center backs) Victor Souza and Santiago Suarez, along with (right back) Hesron Barry. The midfield consisted of Patrick Leal (left), Lucas Maciel (center), and Jack Panayotou (right). The forward roles were manned by Gevork Diarbian (left), Alex Monis (right), and Marcos Dias (central) as the lone striker.

Defender Victor Souza wore the captain’s armband.

First team players Santiago Suarez and Jack Panayotou started the match. Joshua Bolma was on the bench.

This is the club’s first ever match at Oullette Stadium.

The match began with Inter Miami starting from the center circle. They elected to play the ball all the way back to defender #4 Tyler Hall, who elected to launch the ball up to New England’s defensive third.

New England had the first moment of the match from a freekick in the 6th minute. The back-post cross was met with a punch by goalkeeper #99 Cole Jensen.

Less than 2 minutes later, Inter Miami had a clear chance to score when defender #32 Noah Allen’s delivery into the area found forward #22 Alejandro Flores for the easy finish, but his left-footed effort went wide of the posts.

New England’s next chance came in the 11th minute when Jack Panayotou’s shot attempt was blocked for a simple save.

Marcos Dias then elected for a longshot 2 minutes later though his effort was too high.

Entering the 20th minute, New England took the early lead.

Jack Panayotou’s cross went through the box and found Eric Klein. He then elected to re-deliver it into the area. The ball was deflected a numerous number of times until Patrick Leal was able to chip the ball into the net.

Less than a minute after the goal, forward #22 Alejandro Flores of Inter Miami had an effort that was met with a parry save by JD Gunn.

Entering the 30th minute, New England doubled their advantage.

Following a corner kick delivery by Patrick Leal, the ball was headed on by Marcos Dias and then headed home by Gevork Diarbian for the 2-0 advantage.

Inter Miami had a clear chance to score as the match entered the 37th minute when forward #70 was through on goal. His effort was deflected by JD Gunn and struck the crossbar and out.

Less than a minute later, Gevork Diarbian drove down the byline and had an effort of his own, though it went out for a goal kick.

In the 41st minute, Inter Miami II forward #22 Alejandro Flores was issued a yellow card.

Entering the 44th minute, New England added to their advantage.

After receiving the ball from Marcos Dias in his own half, Jack Panayotou drove up the middle of the park, did a hesitation move, and buried the ball into the bottom corner for the 3-goal advantage.

After the 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England ahead 3-0.

The second half began with New England starting from the center circle. New England elected to build out of the back to start the half.

The first moment of the match came for the Revolution when Jack Panayotou’s effort was caught by goalkeeper #99 Cole Jensen in the 46th minute.

Inter Miami had a clear chance to score as the match entered the 50th minute when forward #9 Ryan Carmichael’s effort struck the crossbar and was cleared.

In the 54th minute, Inter Miami pulled one back.

Following a corner kick delivery, the ball was headed away by New England but fell to #6 Yannick Bright for the half-volley finish to give Inter Miami a lifeline.

New England had yet another chance off a corner kick though the effort was cleared by Miami.

In the 58th minute, both Inter Miami II and the Revolution II made their first changes of the match.

Inter Miami head coach Federico Higuaín substituted forward #22 Alejandro Flores and replaced him with forward #92 Cristián Ortiz.

Revolution II head coach Richie Williams substituted Patrick Leal and Gevork Diarbian and replaced them with Luka Borovic and Joshua Bolma.

Inter Miami’s next best chance came in the 63rd minute when a corner kick delivery snuck all the way through for a header by #70 Bryan Destin, though it was met with a diving save by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 67th minute, Inter Miami II head coach Federico Higuaín made two more changes by replacing midfielders #43 Lawson Sunderland and #10 Santiago Morales and replaced them with midfielder #8 Jose Casas de Abadal and forward #85 Idoh Zeltzer-Zubida.

In the 74th minute, Rev0lution II defender Santiago Suarez was issued a yellow card for a foul on #6 Yannick Bright. Advantage was played and issued after the fact.

Less than 1 minute later, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams substituted Alex Monis and Marcos Dias and replaced them with Damario McIntosh and Andrej Bjelajac.

Inter Miami head coach Federico Higuaín also replaced forward #70 Bryan Destin and defender #2 Nykolas Sessock and replaced them with midfielder #90 Yuval Cohen and defender #62 Israel Boatwright.

Entering the 79th minute, Revolution II defender Victor Souza was issued a red card for a harsh foul on forward #9 Ryan Carmichael. Souza was the last man back and it was a no-brainer decision. New England would play the remainder of the match with only 10 men.

Just 2 minutes later, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his final change of the match by substituting midfielder Jack Panayotou and replacing him with defender Alex Pârvu.

Entering the 87th minute, Revolution II midfielder Lucas Maciel was issued a yellow card for fouling #6 Yannick Bright.

Inter Miami’s last chance of the match came in the 91st minute from a corner kick. It was initially cleared but fell to #8 Jose Casas and met with a save by JD Gunn.

In the 90+5th minute, Inter Miami II defender #62 Israel Boatwright and Revolution II forward Andrej Bjelajac were both issued yellow cards.

After the 90+6 minutes, New England held on for the 3-1 victory.

With the result, New England move to 10th in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings.

This is their first official home win at Oulette Stadium.

Richie Williams and the New England Revolution II (2-1-3, 8 pts.) return home to New England to face Eastern Conference side Chicago FC United (3-3-0, 18 pts.).
