Seattle Sounders 1-Houston Dynamo 0

Setting the tempo has a hallmark of the Seattle Sounders 2019 season. Hitting their opponents early and often has given the club a new level of confidence early in the season, something that hasn’t always been the case with the side in MLS. The Sounders continued their early strong run in 2019 with a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo.

Cristian Roldan got things started for the Sounders in the 5th minute, whipping a volley into the back of the net. The goal was his third of the season. The Sounders defense was also on point, using a tight line to keep the dynamic Dynamo attack from creating scoring chances. Houston registered just one shot on target while being forced to make chances down the left and right flank. There were a couple of moments that may have made Sounders supporters a bit nervous. But credit to left-back Brad Smith and Kevin Leerdam for containing the speedy Mauro Manotas.

Although the loss will certainly sting Dynamo (6-2-1, 19 points) supporters will be pleased with the performance of their defense against one of the top attacking sides in the league. They are back at BBVA Compass Stadium on Wednesday to host the Portland Timbers (7:30PM CST/5:30 PM PST, ESPN +).

As for Seattle (6-1-4, 22 points), Saturday’s win ends a run in which the club had drawn their last three matches. They will continue their home swing on Wednesday when they host Orlando City SC (10:30pm EST/7:30PM PST, ESPN +).
