Drinking the Real Salt-y Tears of Vanquished Foes

The result for FC Dallas at home versus Real Salt Lake was not a huge surprise on Saturday, June 25th. FC Dallas have wonderful home form and were starting their regular lineup while Real Salt Lake were resting several starters in their midfield as well their regular goalkeeper, Nick Rimando.

A foul near the half way line gave Mauro Diaz a free kick in the 18th minute. As the ball was rolled to Diaz to take the free kick, he spotted Michael Barrios starting a run in behind the defense and took the free kick quickly. Barrios and Kellyn Acosta sped forward behind the defensive line. Jeff Attinella ran out to challenge Barrios who played the ball across the box to Acosta to put FC Dallas ahead early.

FC Dallas doubled their lead in the 58th minute off an incredible bicycle kick assist from Diaz to Fabian Castillo who cut inside and curled the ball across the goal into the far corner of the net. Yes, you should watch this highlight.

Small Quibbles About the Match on Saturday

The game seemed really long and part of that was a lengthy stoppage for an injury in the first half of the game. There were also two water breaks in the 30th and 60th minutes that were several minutes long. Add to that the 7 total minutes of combined stoppage time between the first and second half, and it was a lengthy, muggy evening in Frisco, Texas. Especially confusing was the decision to start the game at 7 pm instead of 8 pm when it would have been cooler.

It’s Open Cup Time (this Wednesday)

Having made it past OKC Energy on June 15th courtesy of a penalty shootout, FC Dallas will be hosting the Colorado Rapids at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday, June 29th. This will be a good chance to see the top two teams in the Western Conference battle it out without the result affecting the conference standings. It will also be interesting to see how strong a side the teams put out with more MLS action for both teams this coming Saturday.

Will it be another steamy night in Frisco, Texas on Wednesday and Saturday? Stay tuned for that coverage coming your way this week!
