FRISCO, TX–FC Dallas defeated Minnesota United, 5-4, on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes to advance to the Western Conference semifinals on Sunday at Austin FC (7pm CT, ESPN).

Emmanuel Reynoso opened the scoring for the Loons in the 53rd minute, but Facundo Quignon equalized for the Red Hoops eleven minutes later. After extra time came and went with no goals, it was off to the second penalty shootout of the playoffs.

Wil Trapp ended up the only player to have his spot kick saved while Alan Velasco ended the shootout with a panenka that just evaded Dayne St. Clair’s reach.
