The Houston Dynamo FC started the MLS season with a win over San Jose Earthquakes 2-1.

In this new era for the Houston team, Dynamo FC showed a compact game plan with a good pressure in all sectors of the field that complicated the Quakes, especially in the first half, to get an important win to start the season with a win in front of their home crowd.

The away team on the other side, came in with a mission to prove to themselves they are a playoff contender and wanting to start the season on a good note.

Despite missing most of their defenders and having to use Honduran veteran Boniek Garcia in the back line, the Orange found the equilibrium necessary to create opportunities to open the score. The midfield looked good, and their effort paid off when Dynamo’s newcomer Joe Corona passed the ball to Memo Rodriguez. With a good move, he went on to face goalkeeper JT Marcinkowsk and with a nice shot, he scored the 1-0 at the 39’. This was the partial at the half.

The second half started good for the home team. The team had some chances to score, but they were missing their last touch. However, another Dynamo’s newcomer Maxi Urruti doubled the lead for the Orange at the 56th minute after a great passed from Tyler Pasher.

After that goal, Houston tried to control the ball, but that was not the case. San Jose started getting the ball and having long possessions. Also, their attack line was getting closer to cut off their deficit. Eventually and after some clear missed chances, Paul Marie scored a great goal from outside the box at the 74’. The Quakes had a clear chance to least get a point in Houston, but Chris Wondolovsky was not able to get the equalizer, and the final score was 2-1.

Now, Dynamo FC will travel to the West Coast to face Portland Timbers on April 24th, whereas San Jose Earthquakes will face the same day, another Texas team, when they host Dallas in California.
