The Houston Dash gave it their all, but fell short against a very fast and dynamic Washington Spirit in a make-up match at BBVA Compass Stadium Thursday. The match was originally scheduled for May 24th but was postponed due to inclement weather in the Space City.

Washington was practical and exact in their game plan, taking advantage of a short roster for the Dash team, which is missing seven of its starters due to the Olympics. During the first half Washington was very versatile, using the speed of their forwards to cause trouble at the Houston side of the field. The offensive push paid off when Christine Nairn scored the first goal of the match via a penalty kick to make it 0-1 at half time.

While the start of the second half saw Houston still trying to impose its game style, the team that controlled the midfield and possession was the visiting team. In the 63rd minute Nairn scored again for the Spirit with a beautiful 45 yard long shot.

After going down 0-2 the Dash reacted by playing a very aggressive and attacking game. Kealia Ohai and Stephanie Ochs were the ones who took control. The Ohai-Ochs combination worked out late for the Dash, when Stephanie scored one for the home team in the 90th minute.

The loss puts Houston 9th place in the standings with 12 points, whereas The Spirit claim top spot with 32 points. Next match for Houston will be at home when they take on the Orlando Pride on September 3rd.
