San Jose Earthquakes 3- Los Angeles Galaxy 3

California Clasicos are known for the following things: tight scorelines, wild and rambunctious supporters, insane mascots, a few scraps here and there, Stanford University, and of course some quality matches. Add in Zlatan and you can see why last night’s match is already being considered an instant classic. After six goals and a number of lead changes the Los Angeles Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes ended in a 3-3 draw.

The Galaxy took the lead after just the first minute when Ibrahimovic finished a pass from forward Chris Pontius . But San Jose responded with a goal of their own just 14 minutes later when forward Chris Wondolowski retrieved his own rebound off of a penalty kick stop from former teammate David Bingham and buried his shot into the back of the net.

Normally in a match after two early goals things calm down. But the Galaxy attack continued to find space in San Jose’s defensive third with Romain Alessandrini giving them the lead yet again in the 20th minute. Zlatan added his second of the match just five minutes later, his seventh of the season, to give the Galaxy the two goal advantage.

San Jose kept things close at the end of the first half though with Vako scoring in the 69th minute. That set up a frenetic second half which saw both sides trading attacking chances. But the Quakes were given a golden opportunity to equalize in the 68th minute when Danny Hoesen was fouled inside the Galaxy penalty area. Wondolowski knocked home the game-tying goal to level the score once again.
