Atlanta Romp over Messi-Less Miami

0

ATLANTA, GA–A crowd of 71,635 did not get to see Lionel Messi who was rested due to “muscular fatigue” according to coach Tata Martino. What the crowd did see is the hosts scoring five goals to Inter Miami’s two. It was the Herons’ first loss since Messi joined in July. The loss puts Miami seven points adrift of ninth-place DC United with seven matches to play while Atlanta jump to sixth in the East–just two points behind fourth-place Philadelphia.

Leo Campana opened the scoring for Miami, but Tristan Muyumba, a Kamal Miller own goal, and Brooks Lennon put the Five Stripes 3-1 up. Campana added a second to his tally from the spot in the 53rd minute to get the Herons within one, but Atlanta would pull away on goals from Giorgis Giakoumakis and Tyler Wolff.
