Angel City adds Amandine Henry

Angel City FC is once again adding one of the best players in the world when the Summer Transfer Window.

On Thursday, Angel City announced they had signed French midfielder Amandine Henry, who had spent most of her career in France aside from a brief stint in NWSL. Henry signed a three year deal with an option for a fourth year and could be available as soon as next month.

“Amandine is a player who has competed at the highest and most competitive levels,” ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles Mangano said in a statement. “She has led for both her club and country. Her quality of football performance and commitment to the success of our team will make her an invaluable part of our roster.”

Henry comes to Los Angeles after a second stint with Olympique Lyon that began back in 2018 and concluded this year. During that time, Henry made 87 appearances and scored 19 goals, but her best run was during her first spell with Lyon, where she made 132 appearances and scored 32 goals. Henry also had stints with Henin-Beaumont and CNFE Clairfontaine and scored double-digit goals in those two stints. Henry did play in NWSL, spending the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Portland Thorns, making 32 appearances, and her presence in the midfield was instrumental in the Thorns winning both the NWSL Shield and the NWSL championship in 2017. Angel City hopes Henry came provide more of a calming presence in the defensive midfield alongside Julie Ertz.

“I enjoyed my previous seasons [2016 and 2017] in the NWSL because of the level of play, the dedication of the fans and great teammates, so I am excited to now be a part of Angel City,” said Henry. “I can’t wait to be a part of a new team, help write history, and win with the club.”

Internationally, Henry has earned 93 caps for the French national team, and her best run with Les Bleus came in the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, where she won the Silver Ball award and also that year, finished second in the UEFA Women’s Best Player in Europe Award voting to Celia Sasic.
