Houston Dynamo keeps dominating rivals at their home ground. This time, San Jose Earthquakes were the Dynamo’s victim. The Orange beat the Californians 4-1 on Wednesday night.

In a match that had a severe weather delay of about two hours, the home team had control of the game form start to finish. Dynamo’s exceptional pressure game plan paid off at the third minute when Amine Basi took advantage of a defender’s mistake and found the ball inside the box to beat the Quakes goalkeeper Daniel for the 1-0. The second goal of the match came two minutes later when Quinones found Corey Baird for his third goal of the season.

San Jose got a goal at the 41st minute when Cristian Espinoza found Akapo to make it 2-1 at the half.

During the second half, and despite their efforts to mount a comeback, The Quakes found it difficult to break through Houston’s organized defense. Dynamo’s backline exhibited discipline and maintained a strong defensive shape throughout the match.

At about the 60th minute mark, the match paused for about two hours due to inclement weather in the area. When the match restarted, Dynamo was closer to score the third goal rather than San Jose getting the equalizer. The home squad’s persistence paid off as they added two more goals to their tally. A clinical finish from Thor Ulfarsson in the 77th minute made it 3-1. Thor scored his second of the night at the 89th when he found the ball in the middle of the big box for the final 4-1.

With the victory, Houston Dynamo jumped to fourth place in the standings on the Western Conference. On the other side, the Quakes went to fifth place in the standings. Both teams have 27-points, but Houston has one less match than the Californians.
