Fresh off its first of the season loss to Toronto FC, Philadelphia started Saturday’s afternoon game with a bang – looking the better of CF Montreal. Julián Carranza surely is in the elite statistics for drawing fouls, and at the 19th minute, he drew a foul from Kamal Miller in the penalty box. Carranza successfully converted the PK, leaving Philadelphia in the lead, 1-0.
The second half saw the Union let down its guard, seemingly content to hold on to the slim lead. Shortly after half-time, at the 59th minute, Romell Quioto crossed right to Kei Kamara, who was covered closely but behind Kamara by Jakob Glesnes. Kamara’s right-footed shot to the left of the goal was beyond the reach of Philadelphia’s goalkeeper Andre Blake. And just like that, the score was 1-1.
As the second half progressed, Montreal seemed content to hold onto the draw and, as the minutes ticked on, Philadelphia pressed less. While the Philadelphia fans had hoped for three points, gaining four points in two games against Montreal surely is not a bad result.
