FC Barcelona Earns Third Place at WICC

FC Barcelona earned a deserved victory over Houston Dash 3-2 clinging the third position at the Women’s International Champions Cup on the evening of August 21, at Providence Park in Portland Oregon.

Barça opened the score sheet in minute 34 with a goal by ex-Portland Thorns Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic, after imposing their possession style of football. The Catalans had numerous opportunities but the game would go to half time with a Barcelona provisional Advantage.

The second half saw Houston came back to take a 2-1 advantage with goals by Jana Fernández Velasco (49′) and Shea Groom (62′). Barça tied the affair after a penalty scored by Alexia Putellas in minute 72. Alexia, came at minute 78 to score the wining goal from a strike in front of the box.

In minutes, the final between Olympic Lyonnais and the Portland Thorns will determine the champion of this Women’s International Champions Cup.
