Cascadia draw European Champions in ConIFA World Cup group

Cascadia have learned the three teams in their ConIFA World Cup group to be played later this year.

They will play South Ossetia, the United Koreans in Japan and Darfur. The stand out opponent are the South Ossetians who won the ConIFA European Championship last year.

To do so, they won a tough group that included Western Armenia, Padania and Szekely Land, all of whom had very successful runs in the 2018 ConIFA World Cup.

They beat Chameria, an ethnic Albanian region of Greece, on penalties in the semi final and beat Western Armenia for a second time in the final with Ibragim Bazayev scoring the only goal. They conceded just four goals in five games throughout the tournament.

Also in Cascadia’s group are the United Koreans in Japan who also played in the 2018 ConIFA World Cup in London. They drew all three group games and went into the Placement Rounds of the remaining draw where they hammered Tuvalu 5-0, lost 2-0 to Abkhazia and drew 1-1 with Tibet, conceding four goals overall in six games.

In an otherwise tough draw, Darfur make up the numbers. Cascadia beat them 8-1 in Kent, WA last season in their first ever home game.

The tournament takes place in Skopje, North Macedonia from 30 May – 7 June.
