Cascadia to form women’s team to compete in ConIFA 2021 World Football Cup

Cascadia Soccer (CAFF) will announce the creation of a Women’s Team later this week.

In doing so, they will become the first North America and Caribbean Women’s team in CONIFA.

They aim to play their first match in early 2021.

Although the search for a team manager began in July, Prost Amerika understands that the unpaid role has not been filled yet and applications are still open.

“While there are a handful of interested players, a selection list will be made and training scheduled once a manager is in place,” a press release out later this week will say.

Aaron Johnsen is the Cascadia Association Football Federation President. He focused on how this news might be used to give local players an experience and opportunities not available yet at their current level

“A Cascadia Women’s Soccer team is long overdue.

“We hope to give opportunities for players to participate at the international level and explore the world.”

CONIFA North America and Caribbean Director of Women’s Soccer Josh Duder, was naturally delighted at the news:

“During any given season, Collegiate, High School, or Club, there are thousands of competitive women players in the Pacific Northwest playing for the love of the game.

“This Cascadia team looks to unite the women’s game from British Columbia to Southern Oregon and every part of the region in-between.”

“Cascadia Women’s Soccer will give these athletes more opportunities to express themselves on the field and play at an international level.”

Although the first on the American continent, Cascadia join Northern Cyprus, Occitania, Sápmi, Matabeleland Football Confederacy’s Queen Lozikeyi Academy and Karen as CONIFA members with women’s national teams.

The first international CONIFA women’s match took place in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus on Nov 10, 2018, between Sápmi and Northern Cyprus. Sápmi won 4-0, with goals from Sigrun Linaker Dybek, Emilia Kristensen, Sandra Simonsen, and Christina Elise Blind.

CONIFA is currently planning the 2021 Women’s World Football Cup.
