USWNT wins the CONCACAF Championship

The United States Women National Team celebrates their CONCACAF win, which guaranteed them a spot in the Women’s World Cup this summer.

The USWNT wins the CONCACAF Championship after beating Canada 2-0 in the final, played in Frisco, Texas. The US got the lead early in the match after Rose Lavell shot from outside the box near Canada’s goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute. The USA doubled the lead when Alex Morgan scored in the 89th minute which gave the reigning World Champs yet another title.

The Americans earned their spot in the final after beating Jamaica 6-0 in the semis. Canada advanced to the final after beating Panama 7-0. It is important to mention that both teams have now clinched their spots in the next FIFA World Cup with their semifinals wins.

The CONCACAF Women’s Championship is the female version of the Gold Cup. However, this tournament gives the first three finishers a spot at the World Cup, whereas the Gold Cup gives the winner the possibility to play at the Confederations Cup.

Jamaica came in third place for this tournament when they beat Panama in Penalty kicks after tying 2-2 in regulation. This victory gave the Reggae Girls their first ever qualification to the World Cup. Panama, who earned the fourth place, will go on to a series play-off match against Argentina, who earned third place in the Copa America. The winner between ‘Las Canaleras’ and ‘La Albiceleste’ will get the final spot in the 2019 World Cup.

The final draw for the World Cup France 2019 will take place in Paris on December 8th. On this day, the 24 nations that qualified to the event will be divided in 6 groups. Then, the countdown to the start of the most important Women’s soccer tournament, will begin.
