The History Men – Meet the Cascadia side who’ll play their first ever home game

Cascadia will play its first ever home match on July 27. The venue is French Field in Kent, WA at 1pm with Darfur United being the opposition.

The “Dougs” have played seven games so far in their short existence, all of them in London.

Six games were part of the 2018 ConIFA World Cup and the last was a friendly against the Chagos Islands this May. Now they are ready to take the next step and play in front of Cascadians for the first time.

Playing in their sponsored jerseys for the first time, the side will contain some new faces as well as some who have been already capped for Cascadia.

Former Sounders FC defender James Riley (above) who captained the side in the ConIFA World Cup will return to captain the side in Kent.

While he is the only man who played in the ConIFA World Cup to also play in the first home fixture, two other men who have represented Cascadia before will also be returning.

Angelo Calfo and Zane Provenzano impressed in the 6-3 friendly win over the Chagos Islands in Whyteleafe in May.

Both men started the game and Calfo scored Cascadia’s third goal with a bullet header to restore a two goal lead, which the ‘Dougs’ never relinquished.

Age 36

Position – Right back, Centre back

James had a long distinguished professional career, his most notable spell coming at Seattle Sounders, representing them 84 times. During his career he won the US Open Cup five times.

James represented Cascadia in the ConIFA World Football Cup in London in 2018, captaining the side five times.

Dorian Lair will be the first man to keep goal for Cascadia on home soil

Dorian Lair – Goalkeeper
Age 28
Playing experience – FC Shoreline, Shorewood High School, Portland Spartans, FC Mulhouse Portland, St Petersburg Aztecs, Snohomish County Stealheads

Dorian Lair is joining the roster for the game against Darfur on July 27th in Kent WA.

Born and raised in Seattle, WA he played club soccer with FC Shoreline & Emerald City FC. He graduated from Shorewood High School and was Varsity GK for four years.

In 2012, he started playing for NPSL side Portland Spartans FC for four years then with FC Mulhouse Portland for another three years. In 2018, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and played 2-seasons with St. Petersburg Aztecs FC.

He has recently moved back to Seattle and is currently playing with Snohomish County Stealheads.

Angelo Calfo – Central Midfielder
Age 21

Returning to the roster for the game against Darfur is Angelo Calfo. Angelo made his debut in the recent fixture against the Chagos Islands, scoring a well taken header

Already a Cascadia goalscorer, he grew up in Seattle, WA and played for Crossfire in Kirkland before moving to Europe.

He played at EduKick Spain and San Roque CD EFF in Madrid before moving to university in the UK, representing the Richmond International American Soccer Academy.

Angelo impressed on his debut and will be looking to put in another strong performance.

Zane Provenzano will be one of three players to represent Cascadia on two continents

Zane Provenzano – Right Back, Central Midfielder
Age 20

Playing Experience – Portland City United, Madison High School, Richmond International American Soccer Academy

Zane Provenzano will return to the roster for the fixture against Darfur at French Field stadium in Kent, WA on July 27th.

Provenzano, 20, was born in Portland and grew up there, playing for Portland City United and Madison High School.

Zane is currently studying at University in England and playing for the Richmond International American Soccer Academy but will be in Cascadia for the fixture.

He is equally adept at playing as either a right back or central midfielder and made his Cascadia debut in the recent fixture against the Chagos Islands.

Tanner Williams – Winger
Age 26
Playing Experience – Concordia University, Evergreen State College, Kitsap Pumas, FK Jurineks (Latvia), Spokane Shadow

Tanner Williams, grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho and is the second youngest of 5. Growing
up, Williams’ raw talent earned him three consecutive selections to the Region IV Olympic Developmental Program team (2008-2010).

While in high school Tanner lead his team to backto back Idaho state championships; and his senior year was named a high school All-American.

Tanner then received a scholarship to Concordia University in Portland, OR where he
played his freshman year of collegiate soccer. After his freshman year Tanner transferred to The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA where he finished his up his college career.

Soon after graduating he signed for the Kitsap Pumas and moved to Bremerton, WA where he played for the Pumas for the 2016-17 season. After his stint at the Pumas he was signed by a Latvian professional team called FK Jurineks located in Riga, Latvia. He spent the 2017-18 season playing overseas before moving back to the inland northwest.

Tanner currently plays for the Spokane Shadow which play in the National Premier Soccer League.

Sainey Nyassi – Winger
Age 30
Playing Experience – Gambia International Team (six Caps, two Goals), Gambia Ports Authority, New England Revolution, DC United, RoPS (Finland), FC Edmonton

Sainey, 30, currently resides in Seattle and has had a long career in professional soccer. Sainey was born in Gambia and has represented his country six times, scoring twice, at senior level as well as at youth team levels.

He started his professional career playing for Gambia Ports Authority before moving to MLS with New England Revolution, whom he represented more than 100 times.

After leaving New England Revolution, Sainey joined DC United and featured a further 14 times.

Upon leaving MLS, Nyassi joined RoPS in Finland for a season before returning to the USA, representing FC Edmonton in the NASL.

Sainey is a winger who is sure to add quality to the roster. His brother played for Seattle Sounders in both the USL and MLS.

Noah Cavanaugh – Left Back
Age 23
Playing Experience – Seattle United, Crossfire Premier, Whitman College, Osterbro IF (Denmark), Real Union de Irun (Spain)

Noah Cavanaugh, 23, has joined the roster ahead of the game against Darfur on July 27th.

Noah grew up in Seattle and captained Seattle Prep.

He also played for Seattle United and Crossfire Premier before playing for Whitman College.

After completing college, Noah moved to Europe, representing Østerbro IF (Denmark) and Real Unión de Irún (Spain).

Noah is an outside back, who is predominantly left footed but can also play on the right hand side.

Johnny Reynolds – Central Midfielder
Age 21
Playing Experience – Elon University, Seattle Sounders Academy, Ado Den Haag (Netherlands)

Reynolds, 21, is currently a free agent having left Ado Den Haag in the Netherlands after playing 7 times for them in the last campaign.

Prior to moving to Europe, Reynolds made his name with Elon University as well as being part of the Seattle Sounders academy between 2014 and 2016.

Reynolds can play in a number of positions but is at his most comfortable in central midfield.

Beau Blanchard  – Winger/ Central midfielder
Age 24
Playing Experience – University of Washington

Beau Blanchard will be joining the roster for the game against Darfur on July 27th. Beau, 24, was originally called up for the World Football Cup in London in 2018 but couldn’t attend due to work commitments.

Living in Seattle, Beau is comfortable either on the wing or in central midfield.

He captained the University of Washington team during his time there, winning a PAC12 title.

Jay Weinman – Midfielder
Age 27
Playing Experience – Washington Premier Under 23, Tacoma Stars, FC Tucson, Arizona Impact, Spokane Shadow

Jay is 27 years old and was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. After high school he was named an all state player before playing semi-pro indoor in the PASL.

The season after he played for South Sound FC now known as Washington Premier U23. While in Washington he played with the Tacoma Stars the first year they re-established.

Following that season he decided to move back to Arizona where he played with FC Tucson, and Arizona Impact (PASL). He also played for a professional futsal side called Brazza FC before returning to Washington to play for Tacoma Stars.

He is currently playing with Spokane Shadow Men’s first team.

Scott Menzies – Forward
Age 23
Playing Experience – University of Washington

Scott, 23 grew up in Vancouver, BC before moving to Seattle and the University of Washington. Scott scored 18 goals last season and will be a valuable addition to the roster.

Duncan McCormick – Central Midfielder
Age 23
Playing Experience – Seattle Sounders 2, Phoenix Rising

McCormick, 23, previously represented Seattle Sounders 2 after graduating through their academy. He has also played played for Phoenix Rising and is a central midfielder.

Quinn Fahling – Winger
Age 20
Playing Experience – Crossfie Academy, Seattle University

Quinn Fahling, 20, was born and lived in Tupelo, Mississippi until he was nine years old before he moved to Washington.

He played Crossfire premier up until signing for Crossfire Academy.He has recently being playing for Seattle University and is a winger.
