The Deep Dish: Davidson Signs with Red Stars

THOUGHTS ON THE FIRE: Like I said in the match report on Saturday, the Fire’s match against Orlando started as a match that the Fire should have won and ended as a match Orlando should have won. We got no closer to finding out how this Fire squad will pan out because CJ Sapong and Przemyslaw Frankowski continue to show why this team may be better than last season while Jorge Corrales and mental freezes like the one displayed by David Ousted and Johan Kappelhof continue to show why this team may not be.

Regardless, the Fire will have to play much better when a Seattle Sounders FC team with six points out of six come to Bridgeview on Saturday (noon CT, ESPN+). It will be interesting to see who plays at left back for the Fire as Corrales will be suspended. Some will feel that whomever Veljko Paunovic chooses will be an improvement, regardless.

RED STARS SIGN DAVIDSON: On Monday, the Chicago Red Stars made it official and signed defender Tierna Davidson. Davidson was selected first overall by the Red Stars in the 2019 NWSL College Draft out of Stanford. Davidson, 20, already has 12 caps for the US Women’s National Team and started two matches in the recent SheBelieves Cup against Japan and England at center back.
