Sporting Kansas City news and notes

Entering the Copa America break Sporting Kansas City was like the German battleship Bismark. Rudder disabled and incapable of firing a shot accurately and an easy target for the opposition.

Since then Sporting has entered a five match unbeaten run in the league.

Specifically in their last four matches the previously toothless attack found a little Night Fury in them and have since scored 10 goals after struggling to get the needed breakthrough for many matches in a row.

Many fans will not be fully committed to the idea that the team is in the ascendancy as many times before this has occurred but momentum takes the squad on the road and of all teams it is the Chicago Fire who are the opposition.

For a while the Chicago Fire were a team that was pushed as the rival of Sporting due to the close proximity competitively the Houston Dynamo took that piece of the cake.

In 2015 the team who won the wooden spoon for worst points tally on the year. Funny enough in 2016 they are looking to continue that trend in an almost Toronto FC fashion.

This presents a fantastic opportunity to move further up the table as the points per a match ratio is poor in the Western Conference while if still in the East they would be considered one of the stronger teams.

Prediction: 3-1 Sporting as the vein of form continues

Cameron Porter, hero of Montreal Impact’s Champions League campaign has joined Sporting Kansas City in a trade that send Amadou Dia north.

For Sporting this is an excellent move. Having recently signed Ever Alvarado and Jimmy Medranda playing so well Dia was way down the pecking order.

What this really gives Peter Vermes is attacking options.

Porter tore his ACL weeks after his heroics in Montreal and has not made the field since due to injury and recuperation. Recently he appeared for FC Montreal in the USL but had not reappeared for the Impact.

This move finally gives some options as Daniel Salloi was loaned to Europe and left Dom Dwyer and Diego Rubio as the only strikers to be called upon.

Porter will be a valuable asset when the Champions League comes around and perhaps he will put a smile on the faces of Montreal fans by scoring a winning goal against Vancouver in a group stage match.

As well Emmanuel Appiah, midfielder was signed off of waivers.

This will be probably the last move prior to the roster freeze and the usual blind throw of a dart to see if a diamond in the rough can be found.

Vermes has done this before in an attempt to cheaply find a possible diamond in the rough.
