Sporting 1 New England 3

The Revolution was about to keep their playoff hopes alive at Sporting’s expense.

in Ellis own goal and you get a result that will sting for weeks.

But Sporting doesn’t have that luxury.

A Rocky Mountain visit to RSL remains before a final home match against SJ Earthquakes and unless things all go their way SKC could miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 season, Peter Vermes first full season at the helm.

Few bright spots here and all that can be done is rallying together for the final two league matches.

Silver lining of the Match: two weeks to prepare for RSL trip.

CONCACAF Campaign Lost

Officially the campaign was ended when Vancouver defeated Sporting in Kansas City but now a final home match remains to decide who earns second.

When Sporting visited Central FC in Trinidad and Tobago it ended in a 2-2 draw that set the team back in a say they could not return from.

Being eliminated gives the bench players a chance to keep match fit and perhaps some of the bench players from Swope Park Rangers next match should the team move on in the USL Playoffs.

At this point it is merely a friendly match for second and everyone should be offered the chance to show their worth.

Sporting Academy Graduates in NCAA Action

Of 20 graduates on NCAA division 1 programs 18 players were in action over the last week.

One particular highlight was Zach Wright who tallied two assists in University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill 5-0 over Boston College.

Another is Paul Dean. He is at local division 2 side Rockhurst University who is the top team in their classification and has started in all but the last two matches as the Hawks are still undefeated.

Swope Park Rangers 3 LA Galaxy 0

An even match turned on a red card to Jamie Villareal and soon after the winner from Kris Tyrpak sealed the deam.

Pair of stoppage time goals from Mark Anthony Gonzalez on counter attack break away’s meant the scoreline looked more dominating than it was.

Fact is SPR earned themselves a spot in the USL Conference Semifinals and was given a bit of a lifeline as Sacramento was upset by the Orange County Blues to set up another home match.

Should the squad continue they should host the Conference final as well as they remain the highest seed in the conference.
