Sounders romp Rapids on sunny day at the Link

The Sounders put the two game losing streak behind them with a resounding victory over the Colorado Rapids. The clouds parted and the Clink was bathed in sunlight.

The Sounders wasted no time getting on the front foot. putting the Rapids under pressure. The pressure paid off with a well-worked goal in the 22nd minute. Nicolas Loderio off a feed from Rodriguez hit a blistering shot that Tim Howard was able to push aside. Cristian Roldan was first to the loose ball and fed Loderio who in turn fed Bryan Ruidiaz with a decisive pass into the center of the 18 yard box.  Ruidiaz converted for the 1-0 Sounders lead.

The Sounders supporters at the Link held their collective breath in the 33rd minute as Osvaldo Alonso shown yellow for a foul on Dillon Serna was reviewed by VAR for possible red card. After the review the yellow stood and those in attendance let out the breath it had been holding.

The second half started much better for the Rapids as the Sounders seemed to leave their game in the locker-room. that good fortune was short lived as the Sounders regained the control of the match and preceded to put the hammer down. Kellyn Acosta conceded a penalty in the 51st as he tripped Loderio. Loderio took the penalty and puts a hard shot into the corner that Howard was able to get a hand on but unable to keep out of the net.

From then on it was all Sounders. In the 73rd minute Loderio with a run in the box is tackled off the ball but as he was falling was able to feed Ruidiaz for his second as the Sounders are having fun now. The Sounders put the final nail in the Rapids coffin as Victor Rodriguez hit a blistering shot into the upper corner that Tim Howard had no chance. 4-0 Sounders. The Sounders begin a new streak now await the Houston Dynamo on October 8th. This last stretch will be critical for the Sounders playoff push.
