In a battle of two struggling sides the Sounders prevail 2-1 on a rainy Saturday night at Centurylink.
On a rainy Saturday night Seattle beat DC United 2-1. The game after a rather uneventful first half withe the Sounders having the bulk of the possession and DC content to try and play on the counter. Nobody was taking a firm hold on the game. Some chances but nothing that really challenged either keeper. Sounders looked as healthy as the have at any point of the season and tried to impose their will on the game. However the half ended scoreless.
DC started as the brighter of the two sides to start the second half gaining in confidence as the half started. In the 52nd minute Paul Arriola with a very close range header off a feed by Brilliant was saved by Frei with a great reaction save. The rebound fell right to Darren Mattocks who made no mistake and puts a shot into the right corner, 1-0 DC.
In the 56th minute off a throw into the box by Leerdam the Dc United clearance goes right to Lodeiro at the top of the box Lodeiro scores a beautiful volley to level the score 1-1. The Sounders made their first sub in the 64th minute as The Sounders cautious with Rodriquez making only his second appearance of the season comes off for Osvaldo Alonso. The Sounders were forced to make their second change as the injury woes continue as Leerdam comes up with a apparent hamstring injury.
Wolff Eikrem comes on for him and Roldan drops into the right back spot. The match is the Sounders pushing for a second goal as DC holding on for a draw. The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute as Eikrem heads home the game winner off a Roldan cross to make it 2-1 Sounders. The Sounders nearly add a third before the end of the match. DC nearly levels in the 89th minute as Acosta hits a shot targeted for the upper corner. Frei with a diving stop saves the shot and all three points go to the Sounders who win their first in a month!
