Saints rely on excellent history at Molineux not more recent Wolves experiences

Southampton are four points behind Wolves and despite not beating Wolves in their last five meetings, have lost just once when travelling to Molineux in their last ten trips, back in April 2009.

Wolves will hope to continue their fine run of form in the Premier league when they welcome Southampton to Molineux today. The promoted side have taken to life in the top flight well, impressing pundits and fans alike with their style of football and ability to combat the best so far this campaign.

Nuno Esprito’s side sit 10th in the table with nine points from six games. But it is the performances against the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in recent weeks that have really caught the eye. This Wolves side have immense footballing ability and are not afraid to play their own game, they have faith in their system and create numerous chances for their forward line.

The goals are spread throughout the side too, with seven players having got on the scoresheet so far this season, although only the on loan Jiminez has managed more than one in the Premier League.

But they will all be hoping to take advantage of Southampton and their disjointed defence this weekend. Mark Hughes travels to the Black Country on the back of a 3-0 humbling by Liverpool. All three goals were gifted to the Premier League leaders in the first half, and the game was dead and buried by then and the Welshman will be hoping for a better performance all round against Wolves.

Danny Ings will return after being ineligible to face his parent club in Liverpool, a huge boost for Southampton. Ings has come into the side and become a pivotal part of the teams hope for survival this season, scoring three Premier League goals already this term.

Shane Long will hope to return from a knock but has struggled to train this week, whilst Mohamed Elyonoussi and Manolo Gabbiadini should be available for the game.

It is going to be tough game for both sides to get through. There is perhaps more on the line for Southampton given their poor run of form recently. But Wolves are unbeaten at home and will hope to push on to challenge the European spots this season, and their quality should shine through.

Prediction: Wolves 3-1 Southampton
