Ricketts Leads Group to Buy Red Stars

CHICAGO, IL–For most of the season the big question of who is really running the Chicago Red Stars. As of Tuesday, it looks like we have a front runner to take over the Red Stars in the foreseeable future.

Stepping forward is Laura Ricketts co-owner of the Chicago Cubs and a group that would like to take over the club if it’s approved by the National Women’s Soccer League Board.
This could be a big help for a young team that’s trying to grow and putting its best foot forward after hearing some disappointing past news with its former head coach and recent owner.
If anything, it will put a positive spin on what’s left in the second half of the season and maybe the Red Stars can make a push for the playoffs.
Ricketts and a group have an agreement in principle and would like to close on it by the end of the month of August. Joining Ricketts would be a diverse Chicago women business and civic leaders that have reached out to purchase the club.
“I’m honored to lead this group of Chicago business and civic leaders in our effort to purchase the Chicago Red Stars,” said Laura Ricketts, who is also a co-owner with the Chicago Sky. “Our respective backgrounds in professional sports, finance, turnaround management. commercial real estate, marketing, and advertising, paired with our deep community ties, make for a powerful combination that will serve us well in reaching our ultimate goal. Building a championship organization on and off the pitch.
“Building a championship culture begins with treating our players with the respect they deserve as women and athletes. We look forward to completing this transaction so that we can begin the new chapter for the team and the fans.”
The best part about hearing all of this is that the franchise can possibly stay in Chicago and not have any thoughts of leaving down the road.
