FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution defeated first place New York City FC 3-1 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening in front of 23,235.

Juan Agudelo and Lee Nguyen produced first half goals for the Revolution, while New York finally struck early in the second half through Frank Lampard on his side’s first shot on target of the game.

However, the hosts restored their two-goal lead in the 58th minute through Diego Fagundez, who slotted home a shot from just inside the penalty area following the remnants of an uncleared chance involving Agudelo, Nguyen, and Kelyn Rowe.

Federico Bravo earned a red card from match referee Juan Guzman in the 86th minute for a hard tackle on Gershon Koffie.

With this win, the Revolution leap frog DC United to take seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They’re behind Orlando, who occupy the sixth and final playoff spot, by one point.

Orlando plays at Los Angeles on Sunday, while DC play the New York Red Bulls.
