Revolution comeback from 2-0 deficit to draw 3-3 versus Chicago Fire

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution (7-4-3, 24 pts.) came back from a 2-0 deficit to draw 3-3 in a match versus the Chicago Fire (3-7-4, 16 pts.) in an MLS Match on Saturday, May 27th.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA to a crowd of roughly 27,293

The team started their lineup in a 3-5-2 formation with Đorđe Petrović starting in net with a backline of (center backs) Christian Makoun, Dave Romney, and Andrew Farrell. The wingback roles were manned by DeJuan Jones (left wingback) and Emmanuel Boateng (right wing back). The midfield consisted of Noel Buck (left center midfield), Matt Polster (right center midfield). Latif Blessing played ahead of them in the central role. (center attacking midfield) The attacking roles were manned by Giacomo Vrioni (left), and Bobby Wood (Right)

Designated Player Carles Gil starts on the bench following an early substitution the week prior at Philadelphia.

Designated Player Gustavo Bou remains OUT with a leg injury eyeing a return to the bench during the midweek match versus Atlanta.

The match kicked off with Chicago Fire starting with the midfield kick, playing it to their center backs and launching it toward defender Dave Romney in the Revolution defensive third.

10 minutes in, Chicago gained the early lead.

Following a peach of a long ball by #10 Xherdan Shaqiri, he found #19 Georgios Koutsias who took one touch to draw the defenders before shooting the ball past a frozen Đorđe Petrović.

A minute later, the Revolution had their first chance of the match when DeJuan Jones early shot was saved easily by goalkeeper #34 Chris Brady.

In the 21st minute, the Fire doubled their lead.

Chicago Fire’s #6 Miguel Navarro played a low driven effort into the Revolution penalty area was deflected directly off of center back Andrew Farrell and into his own goal past Đorđe Petrović for the 2-0 advantage.

16 minutes later, Noel Buck unleashed a lazer to get one back for New England.

Following a pass from Bobby Wood, Noel Buck took 2 touches before unleashing a left-footed lazer into the top right corner past Chicago Fire goalkeeper #34 Chris Brady.

Not even 2 minutes later, the Revolution leveled the match.

Directly from a Revolution corner kick taken by Emmanuel Boateng, the ball found Christian Makoun. His flick on header into the area found an unmarked Bobby Wood for his 4th goal of the season.

Following Bobby Wood’s goal in the 4oth minute, there wasn’t much action as the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 2-2.

The second half kicked off with the Revolution starting from the midfield center circle. Midfielder Matt Polster took the kick and passed it backward to Dave Romney, who launched it into the Chicago defensive third.

In the 54th minute, the Revolution had a major chance after Matt Polster’s lofted ball to Giacomo Vrioni was taken down and then saved by #34 Chris Brady.

In the 78th minute, Chicago retook the lead.

After running down the left flank, #17 Brian Gutierrez played a low driven ball into the box which was touched by striker #23 Kei Kamara and laid off perfectly for #7 Maren Haile-Selassie to slot it past Đorđe Petrović.

2 minutes later, Carles Gil had a masterclass attempt that went just wide of the left post.

In the 82nd minute, the Revolution leveled the match once again.

Following a corner kick taken by Carles Gil, the ball was headed by Dave Romney and found Jozy Altidore unmarked at the far post. He easily tapped the ball into the next for the 3-3 leveler.

In the 92nd minute, Đorđe Petrović made an unreal save on #23 Kei Kamara to keep the scoreline level at 3-3, and following this save, there was little-to-no action remaining in the game, as it ended tied at 3-3.

During the match, defender Andrew Farrell achieved a major milestone by surpassing 30,000 career MLS minutes.

The New England Revolution (7-4-3, 25 pts.) head to Atlanta, GA to face Atlanta United (6-6-4, 23 pts.) in an MLS Match on Wednesday, May 31st. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
