MATCH FORECAST: REIGN FC TO CONCLUDE 2015 PRESEASON PLAY ON FRIDAY

SEATTLE (April 2, 2015) – Seattle Reign FC will play their final game of the 2015 preseason on Friday, April 4 against the University of Washington in a Community Shield match presented by Dr. Thomas McKenny, DDS. The match will take place at 7 p.m. PT on the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium in Seattle, WA. 

Friday’s game will mark the club’s first annual Community Shield match and is presented by Seattle native Dr. Thomas McKenny DDS. Dr. McKenny has been playing soccer since childhood and still plays recreationally in leagues around Seattle. He is a proud to support Reign FC and women’s soccer in the Seattle area.

Prior to the start of the match, Reign FC will recognize Dr. McKenny and his staff on the field with a signed match ball.

Players can also apply to be included in one of the Woza Soccer travel groups to play soccer and complete service work in Costa Rica or South Africa during the summers.

Reign FC opened preseason play on March 28, defeating the University of Portland 5-0 at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex at Merlo Field in Portland, Or. Four different Reign FC players got on the board, including a brace by Scottish international midfielder Kim Little. Midfielder Keelin Winters, forward Danielle Foxhoven, and defender Stephanie Cox all scored against their alma mater.

The match marks the start of the University of Washington’s own spring schedule in preparation for their fall 2015 season.

The Huskies are coached by Lesle Gallimore who is in her 22nd year with UW and the longest tenured coach in the Pacific-12 Conference. She won Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 2000 when she coached the Huskies to a first place finish following a 8-1-0 season. She recently signed a three-year contract extension to stay with the Huskies through 2017. The Huskies have produced numerous professional soccer players, including Reign FC’s goalkeeper and U.S. Women’s National Team star Hope Solo.

Both Solo and midfielder Megan Rapinoe are currently with the USWNT and will miss Friday’s match-up against the Huskies. Defender Rachel Corsie, midfielder Kim Little, and midfielder Jess Fishlock will also miss tomorrow’s game due to international call-ups with the Scotland Women’s National team and the Wales Women’s National team, respectively. 

Recent acquisition and midfielder Amber Brooks will have her first opportunity to suit up for Reign FC. Brooks was acquired on March 24 in a trade with the Western New York Flash.

Reign FC kicks off their 2015 regular season on Sunday, April 12 on the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium when they host the Western New York Flash. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT. For tickets to the home opener, please visit www.reignfc.com/tickets.
