BRIDGEVIEW, IL–The Chicago Red Stars had a great opportunity to take on the Mexican Women’s National Team for the for the first time and found out just how the club was in a 5-2 defeat at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

However, Chicago was without some of its starters like Alyssa Naeher, Mallory Swanson, and Tierna Davidson, since they were with the United States National Team.
The Red Stars got an opportunity of seeing its younger players to play against some experienced players in front of a crowd that was cheering more for Mexico then for the Red Stars.
“I think soccer won today and the environment was great,” Chicago Red Stars head coach Chris Petrucelli said. “The quality from the Mexican team was really good. It was a very enjoyable game to watch. I was impressed with Mexico, and I thought they were really clean with the ball. They had some really clean chances to score. The crowd put us on our back feet as well.”
In the first half there were a few goals which Mexico outscored Chicago 3-2. Mexico got goals from Charlyn Corral on a penalty kick, Karla Nieto and Maria Sanchez. While the Red Stars found the back of the net with goals from Julia Bianchi and Sarah Griffith.
Mexico added two other goals in the second half from Diana Ordonez and Carolina Jaramillo.

“We’re very grateful with the hospitality and receiving that were provided,” Mexico National Team head coach Pedro Lopez said. ‘It was an incredible feeling coming to the United States and see a fan base and motivates Mexico National team. We try to be generous with the fans giving the max in our football game and make it a beautiful game, and I hope this experience serves too, and the fans have the desire of seeing us play in Houston.”Maria Sanchez, and Diana Ordonez made goals last week over here, and made goal this week and were able to score against Chicago. Which leaves some pretty good thoughts for Mexico and its coach.

“Independently with the quality that they have, in a team or group, your opinion in the scoreboard or in your player that you have in the national team, for us is challenge demonstrate to the player of Mexico,” Lopez said. “In the contexts of the USA professional football players, entering the field, and being able to dominate, let them be themself and shine, and I think they have demonstrated in a happy or joyful manner, and over any result or score, is how they have done it. It’s not only how they won, how they obtain their victory. I believe for them it is and experience, that motivates, comforting that they can do it and play a great football, and for does that were in the stadium or watching in Television, it’s one more motive to keep watching us play as a team,”

The Red Stars’ Sarah Fisher had her chance to see what they were playing against with skill and ability on the pitch.

“It was awesome to play in front of the crowd,” Fisher said. “It really was an awesome atmosphere and was happy I got to play in front of to get the experience. Mexico showed a lot of passion and OI respect them a whole lot for that. They just show a lot of skill and the way they play the ball.”

Arin Wright also caught some of what the Mexican National Team has to offer, and could they play in the NWSL in the future?

“Watching a game like this its so hard to keep up,” Arin Wright said. “There’s a lot of different talent that we don’t have in this league. It would be nice to have a little bit of their technical ability. I think more players will be coming into our league and helping it.

The Red Stars will be back to league play next Saturday hosting the Kansas City Current Saturday evening at 7 p.m. CT.
