Toluca 4-1 Colorado Rapids

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The Rapids were soundly eliminated from Leagues Cup, 4-1, by Toluca in a match delayed by weather for two hours. By that time, Toluca was ready to play and the Rapids unfortunately maintained their woeful home form giving away three set piece goals on the night.

The first of them came in the 45th minute as Pedro Raul scored on the volley off a corner from Brian Garcia. The second set piece goal came in the 76th minute as Edgar Lopez finished off a corner to double Toluca’s advantage. Diego Rubio pulled on back for the Rapids on a spot kick in the first minute of stoppage time, but Toluca would add two stoppage time goals of their own, including one from the spot, to move on to the Round of 32 where they will face Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park on Friday night at 8pm CT (Apple TV). The Rapids will have 19 days off before league play resumes against LAFC.
