Portland Timbers Briefly

A total shocker at Providence Park last Saturday with a last-minute goal by the visitors and leaving the Portland Timbers clueless in the end.

Home is where you are supposed to be strong and no one could mess with you, especially when you play in front of your crowd, and hence look at the way the Timbers are doing it.

When you’re inside the area, you shoot or is it some kind of rule imposed by the team’s manager?

With a number of opportunities at goal, the Portland side never connected or materialized any of its chances and that’s somehow a waste a terrible waste when you are inside the area.

What’s wrong with this team and why isn’t delivering positive results at least at home? The Loons aren’t playing that great game of football either and coming to show and upset the home team isn’t your cup of tea.

Anyway, time to move on and now ready to see if Portland can score their second win on the road, something this team is not known as a strong team to play as an away team.

Many interrogatives came with this club’s performances in this 2023, and now being below the postseason spots once again, it looks like they are on a seesaw.

Time to get serious and become a team not to be messed with at home and transformed as a team to fear whenever they play on the road to bring some fear into the opposition.

In the end, this team needs to become more consistent and take a serious approach against its foes and not become to complacent come game time!

Sporting Kansas City Briefly

For Peter Vermes, the man is a legend in these parts of the Midwest, winning as a player with then Kansas City Wizards as well as a manager, the man brought three Open Cup trophies and one league shield.

In the last two seasons, the man somehow has seen a reverse of his fortunes with SKC seeing a number of his most important players on the injured list and so far, he has experienced two horrible seasons under his helm.

Still, when everything looked like the team was going to start a winning streak, suddenly they lost in the Derby against their Midwest foes in newcomers St Louis City SC to a 4-0 goal rout.

As some of his stellar players return from a long IL, manager Vermes is still looking for answers in how to turn this thing around and at least make it into the postseason with his team. Somehow I can see a remarkable feat if they can do a turnaround.
