Portland Timbers 2  edged FC St. Pauli on a friendly on penalties after a 2-2 tie at full time at Providence Park on Tuesday May 23, 2018.

The Portland Timbers 2 had a hard earned victory after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to tie it. Augustine Williams twice for Portland, Allagui and Diamantakos, scored for FC St. Pauli. With a 2-2 standing at full time, the winner was decided from on a shootout from the penalty spot.

The evening was a celebration of the two clubs common culture with the away fans were invited to the north end. The friendly spirit of the fans was at times contradicted on the pitch by the players, in a match that was at times chippy and hard played by both teams. The players got in a couple verbal altercations and shoving each other a couple times, towards the end of the match. The referee gave two red cards, one for each team, Zehir for St. Pauli, and Diz Pe for Portland.

Fans were heard chanting “it’s a friendly”, and as that quieted down, the end of the match brought back the celebration mode, with celebratory scarves, gifts to players and even an after party at a popular pub in NE Portland.
