New England Revolution 0-0 New York City FC

The New England Revolution would face off on Saturday afternoon against familiar foe New York City F.C. The two clubs met for the second time in September in the empty Gillette Stadium with NYCFC coming out on top 2-0 in the previous matchup. The Revolution would be without midfielder Matt Polster, who picked up a red card during the team’s last match in Philadelphia. Lee Nguyen would get his first start since rejoining the Revolution in his first match in Foxborough as a Rev since 2017.

The Revolution once again would open play with a sense of attacking urgency. Multiple chances were created early, forcing New York goalkeeper Sean Johnson to make a number of saves.

Revolution rookie Tajon Buchanan looked sharp in his second start of the 2020 campaign., playing with a lot more confidence after putting away his first career goal last week.

Neither team was able to break through during the first half as the teams would head into the locker rooms at 0-0. Both teams recorded 6 shots during the first stanza of this match.

The second half played as most second halves have for the Revolution this season. A lot of shots, many attacking chances, but unable to come out on top with a win. Even with the added firepower of Tommy McNamara, Kekuta Menneh, and Lee Nguyen, the Revolution still struggle to find the back of the net. However, while the Revs were unable to score, they were able to stay composed in the back and withstand a late New York City push. A free kick save by Matt Turner would see that the Revolution earn a point, keeping the score tied at 0.

The 0-0 draw marks Sean Johnson and New York’s third clean sheet in the past four matches. The Revolution have a quick turnaround as they face off next against Montreal during a Wednesday evening matchup.
