New England Revolution II have signed academy forward Olger Escobar to a professional contract

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution II have signed 16-year-old academy forward Olger Escobar to a professional contract.

Escobar, a Lynn, Massachusetts native is the 18th signing of the Revolution II’s 2023 season and the 10th player to sign a professional contract from the Revolution Academy since 2020.

Escobar via an Instagram post stated, “I’m very excited to announce that I have signed my first professional contract with my hometown club, this is a dream I’ve had since I was a little boy, I want to thank for first of all god and also thank you to everyone who’s helped me accomplish this moment.”

In a career standpoint, Escobar joined the Revolution Academy in 2018.  During the 2022-23 campaign, Escobar tallied 15 goals in 17 starts for the U17 Academy team, leading them to the MLS NEXT Cup semifinals. Later, he was called up to assist the U19 Academy team in repeating as MLS NEXT Cup Champions. He was named a U17 MLS NEXT All-Star & U17 MLS NEXT MVP on July 6th.

Internationally, Escobar has represented the U17 Guatemalan National Team 5 times. He most recently represented the squad in the U-17 Concacaf Championship leading his team to the Quarterfinals for the first time since 2013 and contributing 4 goals (T-4th) in the process.

Escobar joins Esmir Bajraktarevic, Noel Buck, Maxwell Weinstein, Brandonn Bueno, Malcolm Fry, Hikaru Fujiwara, Colby Quiñones, Dennis Ramirez, and Meny Silva as the tenth Revolution Academy player to sign his first professional contract with Revolution II since the team’s inaugural season in 2020.

The New England Revolution II roster now stands at 20 professional players.

The New England Revolution II (10-5-4, 38 pts.) head to Chicago, Illinois to face Chicago Fire II (6-6-5, 23 pts). The match is on Sunday, July 30th at Seat Geek Stadium and is set to kickoff at 6:00 p.m. All MLS, MLS NEXT Pro matches will be available through the new MLS Streaming Service on the Apple TV app.
