Malcolm Fry’s goal gives Revolution II their second straight win

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution II were victorious in a 1-0 match versus Chicago Fire II in an MLS NEXT Pro Match on Wednesday, June 14th.

The match kicked off at 5:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.

The team started their lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Nico Campuzano starting in net with a backline of (left back), Pierre Cayet and Colby Quinones as the center backs and Pierre Cayet (right back). The defensive midfield roles were manned by Jake Rozhansky (left) and Ben Awashie (right). The center attacking midfield roles were manned by Marcos Dias (central), with Peyton Miller (left) and Malcolm Fry (right). Jordan Adebayo-Smith started the match as the lone striker.

The match featured 0 first team players with the squad.

The match kicked off with New York starting from the center circle. The forward sent the ball directly back to the center back, who quickly sent the ball up the middle of the field into the Revolution II defensive third.

NYCFC’s first chance of the match came in the 6th minute when #31 Jack Beer took a right footed shot from outside the box. The ball was struck low and hard, but it ended up being a comfortable save by Revolution goalkeeper Nico Campuzano.

Just 9 minutes later, #31 Jack Beer had yet another opportunity to score, but his right footed shot from close range missed the top right corner of the net and went out for a Revolution goal kick.

In the 36th minute, NYCFC defender #42 Piero Elias entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh challenge on Jake Rozhansky.

New England’s first chance of the match came in the 4oth minute when forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith’s right footed shot inside the NYCFC penalty area was saved by goalkeeper #60 Alexander Yagudayev.

After the 45 minutes, the match entered halftime level at 0-0.

The second half of the match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle. The ball was sent directly back to the backline before quickly sent the ball up the middle of the field into the NYCFC II defensive third. The quick movement led to an early chance by forward Malcolm Fry which missed just left of the NYCFC goal.

Entering the 56th minute, New England broke the deadlock.

Forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith intercepted the ball from center back #30 ——. After driving the ball all the way into the box, Jordan cut the ball back and took a right footed shot. The initial shot was saved by goalkeeper #60 Alexander Yagudayev, but Revolution forward Malcolm Fry was left unmarked at the back post to volley it home for the 1-0 lead.

In the 61st minute, NYCFC defender #18 Christian McFarlane entered the referee’s booklet with a yellow card for a harsh challenge on Malcolm Fry. One minute after the yellow card to NYCFC’s Christian McFarlane, Revolution head coach Clint Peay made his first two changes of the match by substituting Peyton Miller and Jordan Adebayo-Smith and replacing them with Weverton and Italo.

Entering the 70th minute, Revolution head coach Clint Peay made his first third and fourth changes of the match by substituting Ben Awashie and Malcolm Fry and replacing them with Brandonn Bueno and Gianluca Armellino.

In the 73rd minute, New England had won a penalty kick.

Following an interception in midfield by Italo, he took two touches before sending forward Gianluca Armellino through on goal before he was fouled by goalkeeper #60 Alexander Yagudayev. The goalkeeper was given a yellow card for his challenge.

Following a discussion between Marcos Dias, Italo, and Weverton, forward Marcos Dias remained confident to step up and take the kick. He unfortunately sent the ball miles over the cross bar.

In the 81st minute, New England had yet another close chance to score when Weverton was left in open space and sent the ball wide of the right post.

When the 85th minute struck, so did lightning, and the match entered a weather delay.

Entering the 90th minute, Revolution head coach Clint Peay made his fifth and final change of the match by substituting Marcos Dias and replacing him with Jacob Akanyirige.

In the last minute of the match, NYCFC had their best chance of the half after sending their goalkeeper into the box for the final corner kick of the match. The initial cross was won by #39 Matt Myers, but his effort was sent over the bar.

Moments later, the 90+4 minutes were up, and after the full time and hour-long delay, the New England held on to the 3 points, as the match finished 1-0.

With this result, the Revolution II remain in second place in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference, and fourth place overall in MLS NEXT Pro.

The New England Revolution II (8-4-2, 28 pts.) remain in Foxborough, MA to face Toronto FC II (3-7-2, 12 pts) on Friday, June 23rd at Gillette Stadium. The match is set to kickoff at 8:00 p.m. All MLS, MLS NEXT Pro matches will be available through the new MLS Streaming Service on the Apple TV app.
